It’s just a mix of color and black and white, it’s not that deep

I closed the last blog post mentioning that we had set out on a second photo walk on the evening of October 7th but that I had opted to shoot the 28 instead of the 50. I didn’t add any of these photos to the last blog post because 1) I didn’t feel that they fit with the aesthetic vibe of the rest of the photos shot with the 50, and also 2) I had processed them as a mix of color and black and white and color photos would have also not really fit the rest of the images or the reflections on black and white work in the last post.
I have no idea if this is interesting to anyone but me but I find the juxtaposition of the two types of images interesting. I’d noted in that last post that I’d hit this weird point where it feels kind of weird to shoot black and white. Not because it’s difficult to shift gears and go back to it but just because it feels like the monochrome work is missing something. So I think putting the two different kinds of work together is interesting to directly experience the contrasts. The other alternative to this esoteric nonsense is that this is all just in my head and both of them are good for their own reasons. Some of you probably look at the color work and think, “Ugh, color…” I used to have this almost knee-jerk reaction to anything color. Somewhere along the way I’d inherited this kind of boomer photo-forum attitude about the supremacy of monochrome photography (HT to Andrew McClees for that point, BTW).
Anyways, maybe you enjoyed this. Maybe you’re tired of hearing me beat a dead horse about this topic but I’m still finding it interesting to chew over in my brain. So here we are!
