Where did June go? Am I alive? Is anyone reading this? And other assorted subjects

July 04, 2025

Looking back through my catalog of imagery in Lightroom the last time I uploaded any photos was the end of May. It was that last roll of Arista souped in Rodinal that I shot on a ride in to work. Well, I guess there was also a roll of half frame that my wife shot with the H35N that I developed and scanned also at the end of May but I personally didn’t really take photos for about a month. June 26th was my first time making some pictures again. There’s been a lot going on that has pulled my attention away from making photos.

Through most of June I’d taken a deep dive in to my old Jeep after a long period of neglect and deferred maintenance. It got to the point where I couldn’t put things off anymore so I’ve just been knocking out one thing after another over the last month slowly getting it back in to tip-top shape. New brake pads and rotors, replaced power steering pump and lines, new belt and tensioner, new alternator, finally replaced the broken radio, etc etc.. I don’t know if it’s a neurodivergent thing or what but when I get fixated on a new project I tend to hyper-fixate and it’s the only thing that I work on. We’ve also been dealing with training Ruckus, working on his reactivity which has involved getting out less to limit his exposure to triggers, etc.. So, somewhere along the way taking photos fell by the wayside.

At some point the lack of getting out and doing the things I’ve historically loved to do started to weigh on me and I mentioned that it sounded nice to be able to grab a camera and just take a walk in the woods so I grabbed the Canon 6D and my wife grabbed her XA2 (the only camera she really uses at this point) and we jumped in my now nicely running and driving Jeep and headed to the woods for a walk. And, unsurprisingly, it was nice! When I am shooting it consistently I’ve really enjoyed shooting the 6D again, as I said in that other article I wrote about it. And I’ve stuck with my recent trend of shooting pretty much exclusively color. I’ve had some changes of heart about shooting color and I’d be interested in putting some of my thoughts on color work to paper, so to speak. Maybe I’ll get on that soon.

Anyways, all this to say it’s been nice to get out with a camera and make some photos. Maybe I’ll do it some more. If anyone is reading this I hope you’ve enjoyed some new “content.”
