Complaining about blogs and pictures from a bike ride
Canon EOS 650 + Canon 28-70 + Kentmere 400
I sat down to write this blog post and share some photographs but as soon as I pulled up the blog to start making a post it hit me that I don’t really care to do this. I’ve come to a weird point lately with making photos where I don’t feel the need to share them. Maybe part of this is because it feels like this website is a waste of time and almost no one visits it, so posting here feels like I’m just posting to the void. Since leaving Instagram a few couple years ago this is kind of my only outlet for putting work out in to the world, and it’s hard to feel like it’s worth putting effort in to when it’s going to be seen by almost no one. I also struggle with the format somewhat. Making blog posts with a smattering of photos feels like a haphazard way of throwing work out in to the world. I’d rather focus on just working on the larger projects I’m more interested in following rather than tossing handfuls of work on to the internet in thematically disjointed blog posts here and there. I’ve also come to a point with making photos where I feel more interested in doing work for myself. All of this comes together to make it feel like a chore to make these posts anymore.

All this being said, here are some photos from a bike ride on an early morning in July. I got up at 5:30am to leave the house at 6am and make my way by bike down to Somers to find some chill little spots on the lake. It was a beautiful morning and I was immediately annoyed at myself that I had chosen to grab the Canon EOS 650 and a roll of Kentmere 400 instead of a digital camera to shoot some color photos. I’ve apparently hit the point with color stuff where it’s the main thing I want to do and shooting black and white just feels “Meh.” I can still swing it if I have to but it just feels like some essential ingredient has been left out of the work when I make work in black and white. An integral part of the beauty of the morning in these photos was the subtle morning light and colors in the world bathed in that gentle morning light. When I scanned the photos in black and white I sighed audibly at the lack of color. But, hey, it was still a beautiful morning on a beautiful bike and my memories are in color.
If you somehow found yourself in this little corner of the internet and enjoyed this blog post and the images, I appreciate it. Thanks for having a look.
